Quando o cinema transita da sala de espectáculos para uma sala de museu, já não lhe chamamos cinema, mas outra coisa: video-instalação, multimedia, expanded cinema... Mas se o ecrã de vídeo cresce à dimensão de uma parede de sala e nos encosta à parede em frente, como se estivéssemos nós mesmos no interior de um contentor-televisão, isso já é cinema. No entanto, a ausência de cadeiras, ou o seu número escasso, indica uma relação subjectiva diferente. Esta forma de cinema não convida à contemplação, mas ao trânsito.

O movimento contrário
O trabalho de Filipa César (vinda da escola de belas-artes) provém de um tronco das artes plásticas dominante nos últimos anos e que, simplificando, consistiu em largar os pincéis e pegar no vídeo. Essa tradição, que já vem dos conceptuais dos anos 60 e 70, atravessa os anos 80 discretamente e explode nos anos 90 e 2000 numa pesquisa múltipla da expressão videoplástica e por uma interrogação permanente dos seus códigos e experiências, através de uma apreensão fenomenológica do medium-video e das suas realidades difusas e ideologias confusas.
Cinema expandido
'Expanded cinema' was a term used to describe films presented on many
screens simultaneously. Its aim was to make visible aspects of the
medium normally employed 'transparently'. It demanded that the spectator
reflect on the means of image-making.

Gary Hill
Gary Hill is one of the most important contemporary artists investigating the relationships between words and electronic images — an inquiry that has dominated the video art of the past decade. Originally trained as a sculptor, Hill began working in video in 1973 and has produced a major body of single-channel videotapes and video installations that includes some of the most significant works in the field of video art.
